Our DRYINC© Quality is a registered brand for recycled incinerated non-ferrous metals originated from household waste incineration plants.

The technic is based on an innovative and sustainable technology for optimal utilization of resources from metal division processes and makes it possible to recycle metal pieces down to 0,5 mm. This creates a higher value for the suppliers, a better yield for the aluminum smelters and reduces the risk of metals being brought to landfill.

We divid DRYINC into three sub-products: DRYINC© Aluminium, DRYINC© Cu refining, DRYINC© Stainless and DRYINC© Clean sorted.

  • What is DRYINC?
    DRYINC is a registered brand for incinerated non-ferrous metals recycled by the dry technic invented by and used by Scanmetals A/S and their co-operators.
    The main reason to burn waste is to produce energy, but out for health and environmental reasons incineration process is also a way to help close open air depots and landfills.
    The technic make it possible to recycle metal pieces down to 0,5 mm. The method creates a higher value for the suppliers, a better yield for the aluminum smelters and reduces the risk of metals being brought to landfill.
    The method is applicable to several other types of metal containing materials.
  • Story
    We are of the opinion that incineration of household waste is the better alternative, as long glass, cardboard, newspapers, packages and organic waste is recycled separately. The separated organic products can then be used for soil production, fertilizers and energy. As soon as you fail to separate your waste in to these categories we claim incineration to be the best alternative.

    One of the most asked questions concerns the recovery and loss of metals. Due to metallurgical resistance and many different smelting points many metals will remain unaffected or suffer only a minor oxidation loss at the temperatures used in an incinerator, or during the cooling process afterwards. All types of ferrous and stainless, brass and copper are found in this category.
  • Method
    The metal that suffers most from oxidation is aluminium. The thickness and the surface exposed determines the loss. A thin aluminium foil covered with plastic film on one side and paper on the other is of hygienic reason a superb solution, but it will suffer in an incinerator.

    The energy released when aluminium “burns” will, however, be close to the one released when burning coal. Still, a large part of thin aluminium foil will be recycled as long as the Scanmetals© processing method is used.
    Our method is built on the fact that the inert ash will cover and make it difficult to find the smallest metal pieces. Most part of them will be lost in the ashes using today’s common methods. We prefer doing a complete segregation in our process.

    The method creates a higher value for the suppliers, a better yield for the aluminum smelters and reduces the risk of metals being brought to landfill. The method is applicable to several other types of metal containing materials.

One of the advantages with incinerated aluminium processed in the Scanmetals© process is the dry condition. When smelters purchase wet incinerated aluminium they complain about losses due to oxidation. Our material is totally dry, stored indoors either loose or in closed bigbags. Another advantage is the consistency of the product, specification wise. The stable composition comes from the initial huge tonnage of waste. Out from the original waste the aluminium part will be only around 0,2%. One kg of aluminium will be the result of 500 households’ total daily waste. The third advantage is that our method put a stop to the oxidation and the result is a product more or less without dust. There are more advantages on the metallurgical side as material is low on Zn and Cu. Material is thus used in the alloying process in order to lower contents of different impurities.

An advantage with the materials from Scanmetals© process is that the absence of organics and impurities allows us to separate and make the heavy metals ready for direct use in furnace. In terms of technic this is today not a problem for Scanmetals. Clean sorted zinc, brass and copper is available already. Whenever there is a commercial or any other reason Scanmetals stands ready to process not only zinc, brass and copper but also more specified alloys if so needed.

DRYINC © Cu refining The Scanmetals© process makes it possible to extract pieces of metals less than one mm. The smaller sizes will contain both copper and precious metals. The natural buyer of these materials will be the copper refiners. Our material is both dry and close to 100% metallic. It´s almost totally free from aluminium, chrome and nickel. Of these reasons a Cu refiner will be able to use our material in many different ways within his process. Our material originates from an initial huge number of suppliers/households. We claim our quality to be more reliable and stable than, for instance, WEEE scrap. The combustion of excessive plastics and organic items is necessary in a refiner’s process. Our material will as of today mainly serve as an alternative or complement to the large volumes of a refining work. How it will be in the future we have to see. The suppliers of material to be used in the Scanmetals© process will find themselves with steady and reliable report on high recycling figures of Cu, Ag and Au.

In spite of the rapid development of equipment the stainless sorting is not yet fully to our satisfaction. The stainless steels that occur in incinerated ashes are of various qualities. A large part is SS304 but the amounts of non-magnetic from the SS200-series grow with the change in customers habits. Low-priced products from the Far East are often made in cheaper qualities of steel. Scanmetals will thus take another step in order to produce a good stainless steel quality without impurities for the European industry. The impurities of Cu but also excessive contents of Mo and Ni will be found and segregated. The process is still not finalized and continuous until further on a project level.
