About
Scanmetals is a recycling company – founded in 2002 based on an innovative and sustainable technology for optimal utilization of resources.
Through innovative and effective solutions, Scanmetals recovers and refines metallic waste from incineration plants for the purpose of recycling.
The overall objective is the improvement and development of technologies and processes for sorting and extracting fine non-ferrous metals for greater environmental benefit
The environmental system we all want, often referred to as, “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is the leading star for Scanmetals. Today’s household waste, however, includes more and more complex mixes of metals, paper and plastics.
That makes many packages in practise impossible to recycle, especially when residual contents of food maybe left in the package. Reason for this trend, which opposes the general idea of recycling, is either to reduce weight and volume or to improve durability or handling of the package and its content.
Scanmetals part of the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is to increase the amount of metals that can be recycled after incineration. Only years ago the common perception was that only metal pieces larger than 10 mm could be recycled. The rest was used for construction purposes, or even placed in deposit or landfill. Today Scanmetals, on a regular basis, recycle metals down to ½ mm. It´s true that some metals disappears into oxides during the incineration. Reason for this is that a high incineration temperature guarantees an environmentally secure and clean process. The majority of the metal will, however, go through the incineration process and we will be able recycle it.

A Sustainable Proces
Scanmetals extracts the metal that remains after incineration plants throughout Scandinavia have burned and recovered heat and energy from our daily waste.
These metals are called slag, are used as road fill the asphalt for Danish highways. The metals are separated and recovered in an innovative and complex process that involves x-ray scanners, compressed air, vibration and manual sorting. The remains, non-metallic slag is used as road or construction aggregates.
The process we have developed has major advantages for environmental costs and impact as it is not using millions of litres of water and chemicals; furthermore, the technology makes it possible to recycle metals down below two mm.
The sorted metals are sold to smelters, refiners, ingot makers, foundries, and other manufacturers.
The products from this process are sold under the brand DRYINC ©.

History
Scanmetals A/S is a green company whose mission is development of innovative technology and processes for optimal utilization of resources from metal division processes.
During the summer of 2009 Scanmetals developed a process for extracting metals from incineration slag. Metals are cleaned and then separated into different metal fractions and sold as recycled metals worldwide.
The main purpose of Scanmetals has been the development of technology and processes for the division and sorting of Non-ferrous metals. On an on-going-basis we strive to improve in both technology and processes areas of operation.
We also constantly monitor developments relative to new technology, or new or improved treatment methods for waste management in general, for potential application within our focus area of operation.
In collaboration with private and public companies and independent institutions, and through participation in multidisciplinary partnerships, we want to help ensuring of Danish environmental technology strengthened and the preservation of a Danish leading position in this field.
The long story short
A major reason for our success is our CEO Mr Ejvind Pedersen. With more than fourty years of experience in the smelting and recycling field his knowledge has a fundamental for Scanmetals of today. Ejvind started at an early age to manage lead and tin smelting plants of the Danish company Bergsöe in various countries in South America. Later he became responsible for designing and constructing new plants, including several aluminium plants in America and Denmark. With new technology for sorting non-ferrous came onto the market he continued into recycling for shredded, and later incinerated metals.
The Head of Production, Ms Susanne Jensen, has been working together with Ejvind for the last fifteen years. Together with Engineer and Environmental Manager Mr Adriaan Maas they played a major role when our new plant in Kirke Stillinge, outside Slagelse in Denmark, was planned and constructed. But without good financial control and management by our Financial Manager, Mrs Mette Bjerregaard, the project had not been possible.
When you visit us it will become obvious, to you, that our plant is working as one unit. Our employees are as important as anyone in the management. In a process industry like our there are so many different skills needed during a working day. Knowledge of metals, of equipment, of loading, of cleaning, of sorting, of power, of steel constructions, of logistics, of selling and buying. All skills that together form a unit like the plant we have today.
No one mentioned – No one forgotten. Together we are proud to represent Scanmetals!
